Happy Father’s Day from all of us at Freshway! As you celebrate with Dad this Sunday, consider the following Father’s Day facts:
- Father’s Day was recognized as a federal holiday in 1972. That’s 58 years after Mother’s Day became a federal holiday. The first local Father’s Day was celebrated on June 19, 1910, in Spokane, Washington.
- The person credited for inventing the concept of Father’s Day is Mrs. Sonora Smart Dodd, an American whose father had raised his six children single-handedly.
- The first Father’s Day card predated the U.S. holiday by about 4000 years. It was carved out of clay by Elmesu, a Babylonian youngster, to “wish his father good health and long life.”
- According the the National Restaurant Association, Father’s Day is the third most popular day to dine out, with over 50 million Americans sharing a meal with Dad.
- The necktie is the most popular and number one of all Father’s Day gifts according to the U.S. Census Bureau.
- Roses are the official flower for Father’s Day. A red rose is worn in the lapel if your father is living, a white rose if he is deceased.
All of us at Freshway Foods would like to thank our fathers for helping us become the people we are today!
Thanks, Dad!
