This Sunday, May 10, nearly half of all Americans will dine out or order delivery or takeout for their Mother’s Day celebration, according to the National Restaurant Association . That makes Mother’s Day the busiest day of the year for restaurant operators.
According to new research by the National Restaurant Association:
- 38% of consumers will dine out for Mother’s Day, and an additional 7% will order takeout or delivery.
- Most of us will celebrate Mother’s Day in a casual environment. 62% of consumers will dine out at fast casual restaurants, 15% will choose a buffet-style restaurant, 8% will choose casual dining and 2% will opt for a quick service restaurant. Only 25% of us will be taking Mom to a fine dining restaurant.
- Dinner is the most popular meal to dine out with Mom. 49% of consumers will dine out for dinner, 33% for lunch, 24% for brunch, and 8% for breakfast. This adds up to more than 100%, because some consumers plan to dine out with Mom for multiple meals on Sunday.
- 83% of consumers who plan to dine out for Mother’s Day made their plans less than one month ahead of time.
Dining out is not the only way that we will honor our mothers this year. We will send over 120 million greeting cards, and spend $1.9 billion on flowers for Mom.
All of us at Freshway Foods would like to thank our mothers, for all the sacrifices you made so that we would be happy and healthy, for being there when we needed you, and for helping to mold us into the people we are today!
Thanks, Mom!
